December Horoscopes

Aries
21st March – 20th April

Back in mid-October your ruler Mars started the first phase of a 7 month retrograde cycle, which means events from around that time initiated a process within you of reviewing or reconsidering your current direction. The second phase of all this gets underway from the 19th; up to and around that point situations seem to slow down, but don’t worry about things grinding to a halt, even though it looks to be heading that way. Things pick up in a different way after that; through different options, different intentions, and different approaches. It’s all part of the process.

Taurus
21st April – 21st May

Don’t let sleepless nights have you fooled as December gets underway, things start to turn around, especially midmonth when your ruler Venus has a power meeting with passionate Mars. Venus bumps into Pluto during the final week and the impact can feel like a much needed makeover. Then there’s a blue moon eclipse on the 31st, in the beliefs section of your chart. It means your views on life, love and the universe are also about to take on a whole new look, and yes, that blue moon does mean in a way you don’t see very often.

Gemini
22nd May – 21st June

And here we go again; it’s Mercury retrograde for the fourth time this year. Usually it’s three times, and as there’s also a blue moon in your sign on New Years Eve which is an eclipse, it’s safe to symbolise the Gemini theme for December events as ‘not your everyday happenings’. To sum up: Mercury retro is a change of mind on existing situations, from a change in view or perspective, usually with an eye on the past, or on any spanners in the works, while the blue moon eclipse shapes the emotional landscape; sometimes for months to come.

Cancer
22nd June – 22nd July

What happens as December gets underway is giving you confidence to speak up and speak out, not just for yourself but for others too. Midmonth you are really in your stride about this, taking the lead and showing yourself who’s boss. Then when Mercury retrogrades (moves backwards) from the 26th, you suddenly get shy of the spotlight. But it’s not about pushing yourself back there; it’s more about understanding why you’d want to start second guessing yourself. The full moon on the 31st is a blue moon and eclipse; perfect for attracting some support on bringing self-doubt to a close.

Leo
23rd July – 23rd August

Mars starts a retrograde phase (appearing to move backwards) while in your sign this month. Mars symbolises action, so there’s a change of approach or a change of pace in store, and usually this initially means a slow down or turnaround in certain situations. It’s all been bubbling for a while though really (since mid-October), so events from that time might relate to a turning point that’s being felt on or around the 19th. You’ve been aiming for more clarity since Oct, to get clear about your own intentions, and Mars is calling you to reach powerfully for this during December.

Virgo
24th August – 22nd September

Your ruler Mercury is retrograde again this month, which means your heading for a significant change of mind or perspective about current situations. It’s a process lasting into January, but for now, as Mercury slows down for its first turning point on the 26th, some situations slow down too. It might seem that obstacles and delays are thwarting your efforts, but they are just making you search for new solutions, and this different approach is what it’s all about really.

Libra
23rd September – 23rd October

There’s an emphasis on communication first half of the month, culminating with a new moon in this area of your chart on the 16th, indicating a new feeling or intention around the idea of getting your message across and about what you receive from others. Meanwhile there are planets collecting in your comfort zone, symbolising a focus of your energy on home and all emotional ties. There’s an intensity to these situations which is making you dig deep within yourself, and there you find the treasure and therefore the gift of the situation (especially around the 31st).

Scorpio
24th October – 22nd November

Mars, one of your ruling planets, is starting a retrograde phase (appearing to move backwards) from the 19th. It’s happening in the long-term aims and ambitions section of your chart; and it covers career, status, and all your big expectations. It doesn’t mean everything’s really going backward (though things tend to slow down or take different directions around that retro date), it means you’re heading for a different view that will eventually take you forward in a whole new way. It really got going out of events mid-October, and it lasts till next May, with a big turning point or turnaround during March.

Sagittarius
23rd November – 21st December
The sun’s in your sign which means it’s your time of year, when the world is more on your wavelength and you feel people ‘get’ you instead of suspecting they’re just out to get you. The new moon in your sign on the 16th indicates a new emotional phase born of restlessness; you’ve got itchy feet for a more authentic experience of yourself, and the journey is now underway. Your ruler Jupiter meets dreamy Neptune all month, but especially strong around the 21st, which means unless you believe in it, you aren’t going to see it; it’s never the other way round.

Capricorn
22nd December – 20th January

Communication is all about trust during the first week of the month; though it’s not necessarily about trusting what others are saying, it’s trusting your own instincts to hear what they are saying, as well as the message you are wanting to get across to them. This theme of trust is echoed from the 21st, and especially the 31st, during an eclipse in the relationship angle of your chart, but it’s now about trusting yourself into the unknown, to feel your way through situations that would have previously had you so guarded there would have been no room for manoeuvre.

Aquarius
21st January – 18th February

Back in June you might have experienced a ‘nearly but not quite’ moment, thanks to the nearly but not quite alignment between Jupiter (abundance) and Neptune (your wildest dreams). These two planets are now on track to meet this month, just around Solstice time on the 21st, when the sun moves into the most mystical angle of your chart. Thing with Neptune is, you have to believe your wishes are real things, otherwise Jupiter can’t deliver and you’re left disillusioned about what might have been. This is not the month to ponder in a sensible fashion about reality and its obvious limits.

Pisces
19th February – 20th March

The second week of December brings some welcome relief from the pressures of the first week; harmony begins to prevail because burdens don’t feel so heavy when there’s someone who doesn’t mind sharing the load a bit. There’s an important meeting between your two ruling planets this month too; it’s exact around Solstice time on the 21st, but this has been building for a while now, and if there was ever a time for believing in your wildest dreams then this is it. Suspend disbelief for the Solstice and beyond, and let the fairies of the universe work some mid-winter magic.

November Horoscopes

Here's the horoscopes for November:

Aries
21st March – 20th April

Saturn has now moved into the relationship angle of your chart, for a two year stay. Saturn is the planet of expectations, of those we place on ourselves and others, so this is what relationship issues are going to revolve around for the foreseeable. This is the time when you find out if those expectations serve you: if set your sights too low for your self-belief to cope with, you’ll recognise the flat feeling of un-fulfilment; set them too high and you’ll keep being disappointed. The key to this is adjusting self-belief, which Saturn always supports, to match what you want. Not easy at times, but that’s Saturn for you.

Taurus
21st April – 21st May

November opens with a rather stubborn and inflexible full moon in your sign on the 2nd. It’s all to do with relationships, and included is your relationship ruler Mars, pointing you to issues relating to comfort zones and staying within them. Any resulting tensions ease by midmonth though, when your ruler Venus links up with Mars, again on a theme of relationships, this time full of very strong intentions for harmony. Meanwhile Saturn starts a two-year journey through the solution-seeking angle of your chart; and as Saturn likes to takes it’s time doing anything, there’s no quick fixes.

Gemini
22nd May – 21st June

There’s a significant journey starting for Gemini, now that Saturn has started its two year trip through the angle of your chart that deals with matters of the heart. It’s the most creative and expressive part of your chart, and thrives on giving and receiving appreciation. Saturn takes life a bit too seriously at times, and is too often self-deprecating, so the challenge is to find your positive inner Saturn and get expressing rather than denying all you have to give and receive.

Cancer
22nd June – 22nd July

There’s a big transforming influence this month, symbolised by Pluto linking to Saturn, planet of structure and boundaries, which has just started a long-term stay in the emotional ties and comfort zones angle of your chart. Pluto, from your relationship angle, is the transforming influence on this, meaning situations arising from partnerships are facilitating deep change within you. Your view of the past is also affected, so memories are being brought up for review and the new moon around the 16th has this theme, bringing feelings of relief whenever necessary change is allowed to take place.

Leo
23rd July – 23rd August

Mars is still in your sign, making you all feisty and fiery and a force to be reckoned with, and midmonth there’s a new moon (new emotional phase) in your house of domestic bliss and comfort zones, that incubates plans for your future. The message is to trust that what you don’t know won’t harm those plans really; no matter how foggy or cloudy others get with you around that time, as the universe always has its mysterious ways of getting the info you need to your door, without the need to have to rely on the unreliable.

Virgo
24th August – 22nd September

Saturn has now left the building, as far as Virgo is concerned, after two years in your sign. Think back to autumn 2007 and what’s been going on since then and you’ll have an idea how Saturn has been making you aware of self-limiting beliefs and calling you patiently towards entertaining higher expectations of yourself. And now Saturn moves into the finance and assets section of your chart, and is about to spend a lot of time prodding you in that area of your life too, beginning with a link to creativity and matters of the heart (especially around the 16th).

Libra
23rd September – 23rd October

Saturn is now in your sign for the next couple of years (and it only happens every 28 years). Saturn gets bad press as the planet that brings limitation and restriction, but of course it’s not as simple as that, as there’s two sides to every planet energy: on the positive side, Saturn encourages the kind of strong self-acceptance that normally only comes with age and maturity, helping to structure and support dreams and aspirations into reality. The negative side is about giving yourself and others a hard time through self-doubt, stress or pressure, so learning to go easy on yourself is lesson one.

Scorpio
24th October – 22nd November

Your ruler Pluto, planet of trusting the unknown, is linking to Saturn, planet of future expectations, all month. It’s an interesting mix of energies, especially as Saturn has just entered the ‘go with the flow’ angle of your chart, where surrender takes you where you want to go faster than fighting against the current. There’s a fabulous new moon (new phase) in your sign on the 16th and events around this time somehow show you how well things can go when you trust the process. As this is a long-term influence, things unfold gradually, but this is part of it too; trusting the timing.

Sagittarius
23rd November – 21st December

The sun moves into your sign on the 22nd, and when the sun is in your sign its sort of like your personal New Year, so the weeks before that tend to be more reflective and introspective, as you gather your energies ready for that sun coming up. Not that it’s a particularly quiet time this month; there’s plenty happening, symbolised by your ruler Jupiter in amongst all the planetary action, energising your house of communication. Midmonth and final week are busiest for this, and there’s also Saturn starting a two-year trip through your house of hopes and dreams. More on that next month.

Capricorn
22nd December – 20th January

Your ruler Saturn has just started a two year journey through the angle of your chart connected to long-term plans and aspirations. And this month it links up strongly to Pluto, planet of deep transformation. Put that together and it spells big change in store. Change lets loose butterflies of anticipation, as the element of the unknown causes friction with past expectations, but this seems to be something you are so strongly reaching for that the certainty breeds security. It’s still done the Capricorn way; slow and sure, step by step; but there’s no stepping back from this one.

Aquarius
21st January – 18th February

Saturn has just changed signs, which means for the next two years the planet also known as Lord of Time is influencing the angle of your chart that deals with your perspective and beliefs on life, love and the universe. With a time lord in this spot, the universe really is your oyster; the only thing it comes down to is what you believe to be within the realms of possibility, as not even a time lord can defy your own expectations. Interesting dates this month: around 16th for a deep sweet new moon, and around 26th, when everything’s happening at once.

Pisces
19th February – 20th March

There’s a sparkling new moon for you on the 16th, which symbolises the seeds of a whole new emotional phase getting underway. It’s a sparkly one because of the light it can shed on situations; it’s illuminating, lightbulb moments all the way, in a twinkly fairy light sort of way. Meanwhile Saturn, planet of permission and denial, begins a two year journey through the trust angle of your chart. It means situations start popping up requiring your willingness to let go of trying to control the uncontrollable, and trusting that what you can’t see isn’t out to get you.

October Horoscopes

Aries
21st March – 20th April

First half of the month, especially the first week during the full moon in your sign on the 4th, there’s the likelihood of clearing the clutter on certain situations that have felt frustratingly slow or out of control in their backtracking or backlog. Full moons tend to break stalemates, and this one has the energy signature of communication moving things forward at last. After that, planets collect in your house of relationships, pulling your attention to that area of your life, and there’s a new moon here on the 18th, symbolising a new feeling of balance and bonding emerging over the coming weeks.

Taurus
21st April – 21st May

Under a priority-sorting full moon during the first week of October, the sun in the problem-solving area of your chart is lighting up solutions to long-standing issues, which during the second week can come unexpectedly, suddenly and in unusual forms. There’s a strong link to Saturn (limits and boundaries) at this time too, which can feel constructive or undermining, depending on your current confidence levels at declaring yourself in charge of this process, and then after the 22nd, the sun moves into your house of relationships; and where the sun goes, your attention can’t resist following.

Gemini
22nd May – 21st June

It’s all happening in the house that rules matters of the heart this month, which covers anything currently making your heart sing, or that you hope will in the future, or who you hope will. Whatever you put your heart into is where your most creative energy soars, so inspiration is high for the whole of October, and pretty unlimited actually, around the final week. Also, your ruler Mercury finishes its retrograde cycle midmonth, which sort of ties up some loose ends from August somehow.

Cancer
22nd June – 22nd July

The full moon on the 4th takes place between the long-term aims angle of your chart, and the comfort zone angle; symbolising a conflict of interest between past and future, or the pull of the new place versus the familiarity of the old. More planets collect in this comfort zone angle as the month goes on, indicating what your priorities are in current situations, and then there’s a cosy, fuzzy, rather romantic new moon here on the 18th bringing soft and soothing perspectives to help inspire where you go and how you go from here.

Leo
23rd July – 23rd August

There’s a turnaround regarding issues around finance and resources as the month gets going; whatever has felt delayed or held back might be shaking loose around now. There’s a fabulous link-up between the sun and Jupiter in the first half of October, affecting communication and relationships (Jupiter is expansive and uplifting, while the sun is creative energy), and then more planets gather in the communication angle of your chart to keep the momentum going. Action planet Mars moves into your sign midmonth; Mars moves you to fulfilment of desires, it’s kind of like a calling you can’t ignore.

Virgo
24th August – 22nd September

As October begins, you’re seeing things in a different way, symbolised by your ruling planet Mercury’s change of direction. It has been a journey of twists and turns since mid-August, and the final chapter of this particular Mercury story ends midmonth, with a feeling of moving forward into new territory with a whole new perspective gained from what you gathered along your way through recent events. Simultaneously, your relationship planet Jupiter also begins moving forward after months of retreading old ground, and the turnaround reveals solutions that weren’t in view before.

Libra
23rd September – 23rd October

The sun is your sign till the 23rd, powering up your creative energies, and allowing you see a world on your wavelength, and around the second week, your ruler Venus is busy experiencing the unexpected, setting boundaries and clearing some emotional clutter. The annual new moon in your sign on the 18th symbolises a sort of turning point emotionally with new feelings on old situations, and new ways of looking at yourself, all destined to carry and call you forward in different, more satisfying ways over the coming months. Finally, there’s a fabulous Venus/Jupiter meeting at end of Oct. Always expansive, lucky and lovely.

Scorpio
24th October – 22nd November

The sun is preparing to move into your sign on the 23rd so it’s the end of your zodiac year and the beginning of a new one. The Scorp New Year is just like any other, with the tendency for self-reflection and evaluation of past experience, so make time for some quiet contemplation to match your introspective attitude. This doesn’t mean its all gone quiet though, not with Mars reaching the top of your chart from midmonth, activating your desire to get things moving in long-term plans; in fact it’s all a bit busy there by the end of the month.

Sagittarius
23rd November – 21st December
There should be the sensation of a gathering of momentum in the forward motion of situations as the weeks go by, with your ruling planet Jupiter ending its retrograde cycle (where it appeared to move backwards). At the same time, your relationship ruler Mercury also steps into new territory, with the same forward reaching approach. Jupiter’s turnaround often symbolises some kind of literal turning point in situations, and in this case communication is the key to it all.

Capricorn
22nd December – 20th January

Planets are gathering in the area of your chart symbolising status, ambition and long-term planning, which is a comfy for Capricorn to focus on, as the themes are familiar, being associated with your sign, so the steady stream of related events throughout October might feel welcome and satisfying, especially a new moon here on the 18th symbolising the strong emotional pull toward future plans. Meanwhile your ruler Saturn is soon to begin a very long-term, very change-orientated meeting with transformation planet Pluto in your sign. You might feel the rumblings midmonth, in connection with events linked to plans and ambitions, etc.

Aquarius
21st January – 18th February

There’s a sense of things moving forward as October begins, after all the trust that’s been required in situations since August, from a feeling of being in the dark about what was happening; but with Mercury symbolising your change of mind and change of perspective about things, you’re now in the right position to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Mars moves into the relationship angle of your chart around midmonth, indicating feisty, action-orientated energy. You have strong feelings about what you want at the moment, and Mars wants to move you in that direction.

Pisces
19th February – 20th March

Mercury ends its retrograde cycle (appearing to move backwards) as October begins, and this often coincides with a release of tension or stress in situations as they start to move forward again. The benefit that comes with a retrograde cycle is the wisdom gained from the experience; the information and conclusions you reach from having to move within situations in a different way (there’s a difference in the way you now see things than when it all started in August, yes?). This all sets you up to trust yourself more, and this is the underlying theme for October.

Mercury's moving backwards (not really it just looks that way) and I've written all about it for Michele Knight's astrology site. You can have a read here

September Horoscopes

Aries
21st March – 20th April

There’s an important line-up of planets all month in the problem-solving angle of your chart. Its part of a long-term repeating cycle going on at the moment, most noticeable in your day to day running of things and how you get the tangles, knots and spanners out of your works. The way to get the best out of this planet energy is to be open to sudden solutions. Watch them flash in, through dreams, daydreams or from someone you least expected. It comes when you aren’t pushing for the answer you see; the universe seems to go for nonchalance and no pressure.

Taurus
21st April – 21st May

While the sun moves through the matters of the heart angle of your chart, magnetising your attention to romance, creativity and all that you seek to put your heart and soul into, planets also here are symbolising the pushing of boundaries and breaking of limits. To do so those limits have to be challenged first of course, and so rather than blame others for this behaviour, remind yourself amidst any conflict during September that the higher purpose or deeper intent you have at the moment is to break your own mould, and those others are just kindly helping you out.

Gemini
22nd May – 21st June

Lots happening with planets in the comfort zone angle of your chart, and in the long-term aims angle. It’s about where you feel comfortable right now, versus where your future plans want to take you. The full moon on the 4th highlights this emotionally, and then Saturn/Uranus brings the story of last autumn and early spring back to the forefront. For Gemini in particular this has a specific theme of trust and belief. Or trusting what you want to believe and vice versa. Then all themes blend together during the new moon on the 18th to bring new focus and definition.

Cancer
22nd June – 22nd July

Mars moves into your sign as September gets underway, so its action stations as far as long-term goals and plans go. And it all revolves around the importance of communication and information, and of the beliefs and perspectives carried by it. It’s a re-emerging theme from last autumn and early spring, and with you being so lunar-ruled, put the 4th and the 18th in your diary to mark the full and new moon, as it’s around that time the feeling of being at odds with the re-emerging theme is greatest. It’s not a bad thing though, it’s productive, especially around the 18th.

Leo
23rd July – 23rd August

The sun is moving through the resources section of your chart, which tends to bring finances to the forefront, as well as anything that money can buy. It’s really about security and worth, which are more to do with thoughts and feelings about yourself and others, rather than cash; ironically, says metaphysics, it’s what money can’t buy that attracts it to your door. This theme is strong for September, along with a rather metaphysical interlude midmonth, in which it’s possible to make a miracle or two happen right out of thin air.

Virgo
24th August – 22nd September

Oooh, busy month for Virgo! It’s the re-emergence of the Saturn/Uranus opposition (limitation versus liberation), so if you look at what’s been going on since last autumn within the context of this theme, you’ll get a feel for where your focus of attention is likely to be pulled this month. Thing is, all this is amplified greatly by the full moon around the 4th and the new moon around the 18th as they spotlight your sign; so first half of September is about clarifying how you feel, while after midmonth and especially around 18th it’s deciding what you want as a result.

Libra
23rd September – 23rd October

It’s ever such a creative time, especially midmonth, but sometimes it might feel like you’re walking into the wind with it all when Mercury changes direction during the first week, and old problems you thought you’d floated free from start to re-emerge. You might think the struggle is saying don’t bother, but actually the message is don’t bother with the struggle. Mercury is there to help you find a different view on all this, while the old problems are only back for new solutions. New moon on the 18th doesn’t half help show you it’s when you stop searching that you find them.

Scorpio
24th October – 22nd November

The sun is moving through the hopes and dreams angle of your chart all September, and during its time here is part of an important line up of planets that first showed themselves last autumn and again early spring. Cast your mind back and see if you remember feeling like limitations got in the way of creative endeavours; or whether sudden happenings clashed with your need for time to develop your dream plan. So yes, it’s back again, but always different as you’re wise with experience to know that what comes out of all that is often better than you first dreamed it.

Sagittarius
23rd November – 21st December

The sun hits the top of your chart this month, in the angle of long-term plans and commitment, and the story for September is about the continuing conflict or contrast (first seen last autumn and again early spring), of the best way to go about what you are reaching for without compromising your current comfort zone, which is all about feeling free to go with your flow. Full moon on the 4th brings this to a head, while new moon on the 18th points to a new commitment; hopefully one that remains unrestrictive on that flow of yours.

Capricorn
22nd December – 20th January

Remember last autumn and early spring? All that astro talk about your ruler Saturn (limits and boundaries) clashing with Uranus (unconditional freedom). Well its back for another hit during September, hitting the same parts of your chart; so for example its free speech versus traditional beliefs, or it might be information that sets you free versus restricting views on things. So many ways it can play out all month, but will be most recognisable loosely around 4th and 18th; especially 18th as the new moon indicates a powerful new chapter ahead for you.

Aquarius
21st January – 18th February

So the big news for September is that your two ruling planets, Saturn and Uranus are going head to head again all month, which means the re-surfacing of themes from early spring and last autumn, along the lines of security, resources, trust and how others in your life tie in with all that. Control freak or live and let live? Aquarius would always choose the latter without question, but it’s funny what behaviour you come out with when you believe external conditions justify it. Best not believe everything you think then.

Pisces
19th February – 20th March

The focus is on contracts, agreements, and balance in relationships this month as the Saturn/Uranus opposition is active again, hitting right on this angle of your chart; so think back to last autumn and early spring this year for clues to what was being inspired within you through events. It’s Uranus (freedom without compromise) versus Saturn (limits and boundaries); and the full moon in your sign around the 4th will amplify your emotional take on this, then a very powerful new moon on the 18th in the relationship angle of your chart indicates a whole new phase for this area of your life.

New Moon Eclipse In Cancer

... happening during the early hours of the 22nd July, UK time, about 3.30am. Eclipses seem to set future events in motion, by amplifying the emotional significance of events happening around the time of the eclipse, which future events then seem to unfold out of quite naturally; all within the symbolism of the sign involved. They set a certain tone or a theme for months, sometimes years to come, through the emotional response that events at the time of eclipse seem to invite, or sometimes demand.

This eclipse is in the sign of Cancer, so is uber-emotional anyway, being the sign of emotional attachments, emotional responses and comfort zones. It's all about the invisible emotional cords that pull us to places and people and things, so expect nostalgia and reminiscing, comfy chairs, comfy cardigans, and all that goes with joy of what's soothingly familar, but also what is holiday hell when families get together to squabble amongst fine food and suppressed emotional clutter.

I think this eclipse could highlight need versus neediness, or emotional fulfilment versus lack of it. Then it's the emotional response to it all which is going to count...pangs of indefinable, free-floating, restless discontent might seem to beg for icecream or therapy sessions, but I do think its more symptomatic of feeling the effects of being unplugged from yourself. And no amount of anything that you reach for outside yourself for is going to cut it.

So I think it's a theme of emotional disconnection/reconnection highlighted at the moment, which continues in various forms through situations over the coming months, and while it might seem like others are important in this emotional equation, it's really about being plugged in or not to yourself, and the icky vibes that come with falling out of love with yourself. There's just not enough ice cream in the world to soothe that break-up...

New Moon In Cancer 22nd June...

... and it's powered by Pluto, standing right opposite in the zodiac, in the sign of Capricorn. I've been having super-charged Pluto transits lately, which always makes me go all quiet on this blog for some reason (Scorpio ruling 3rd house of communication perhaps?), and yet now look! - a Pluto powered new moon has brought me out of hiding! :)

Reason being I saw this luverly photo and quote, posted on a forum I visit (thanks Ocean!), and it just oozed what I feel about this new moon vibe. Whenever I am feeling frazzled and fragmented by life, I find that in a good contemplate over a picture of some fabulous symmetry in nature (especially circles), the image of natural wholeness soothes and heals my furrowed brow no matter how heavily it's been on overheat from hamster-wheeling through a problem; and there is something somehow so solution-orientated and nourishing for the soul about this pic and quote that feeds the intense need for completion and fulfilment being activated by this extra-emotionally driven Cancer Moon. So here's self respect in a new light, under the dark moon phase:

"You would all be all right with who you are if you had been making your decisions based upon how they feel to you all along. But it is because you have been trying to evaluate yourself through the eyes of others...You are so hard on yourselves when you are someplace different than where you want to be. And that is what this message is all about. You must soothe yourself into emotional comfort before your desires can become manifest. You cannot hold yourself in disrespect of self and get what you want."

June Horoscopes

Aries
21st March – 20th April

This month your ruler mars, planet of desire in action, moves into the angle of your chart connected to finance, property and worth. Alongside Mars is Venus, planet of worth and values. These two energies work perfectly together, especially at this angle; so whatever happens this month honour your inner Mars and Venus by valuing your desires, especially around the 22nd during a powerful summer solstice inspired new moon (new emotional phase). There’s a feeling of security born from it all that makes it easier to deal with transformation planet Pluto’s overpowering urge to shed skins during this time.

Taurus
21st April – 21st May

If there was ever a time that love is in the air it’s this month. Your ruler Venus is side by side desire planet Mars all month, in your sign, and making a fabulous alignment with commitment planet Saturn, around the time of the new moon (new emotional phase) on the 22nd. This new moon is all about endings as much as it is beginnings though, so a letting go, or releasing process is also going on in some aspect of your life, with a view to making space and time for future transformation.

Gemini
22nd May – 21st June

You had a big change of perspective last month, and now it’s time to live this change through events this month; especially through the tension-building full moon around the 7th, across the relationship axis of your chart, amplifying issues of permission versus denial in situations. Though you’re the only one that can deny yourself anything, it often seems like others are responsible; it’s the mirror thing you see: they reflect your belief ‘it’s not possible’. But with a recent change in perspective, your beliefs aren’t so clear cut anymore, and therein lies your freedom to find the yes in what you want.

Cancer
22nd June – 22nd July

There’s a powerful new moon (new emotional phase) in your sign on the 22nd. It’s powerful because it’s summer solstice time (seasonal shift of energy), and because planet Pluto figures highly. Pluto is about situations that force the issue of trust versus control. Do you let go of control of circumstances, trusting that the bigger picture has your interests at heart? Or clutch tightly at a situation to make it happen your way, from the fear it couldn’t possibly otherwise? First one takes faith initially but is longterm stressbuster. Second one? Not a pretty sight but we’ve all been there.

Leo
23rd July – 23rd August

There’s so much happening there’s not enough space to mention all here, but key points are: last month there was a turning point in long-term aims and ambitions, especially in the realm of career. As June gets underway the new perspective you gained back then starts to affect the way you deal with events now, and with Mars adding persistence to plans, and Venus sweetening relationships, this whole aspect of your life can take on new meaning now. Also, there’s a rare intensity to events around the 22nd, which can incubate change at deep levels over the weeks ahead. Trust it to allow it.

Virgo
24th August – 22nd September

There’s a pressure-filled start to the month because as ever with Virgo there’s a strong desire to sort things out perfectly, but the full moon on the 7th involves planet Saturn and its restrictive energy. The key with Saturn-fuelled events is to know that unwanted limitations are a mirror for where you need to give permission to yourself to experience what’s wanted; which it’s clear you manage by the 22nd, because there’s a fabulous line-up of Saturn/Mars/Venus around then that sets a tone for weeks to come because it’s new moon time (new emotional phase). Intense times, but productive.

Libra
23rd September – 23rd October

There’s a rare and important alignment between Venus and Mars all month, which are close together in the trust angle of your chart, and trust is what it’s all about at the moment. Love goddess Venus is your ruler, so when a meeting with desire planet Mars happens like this, it means romance rules with a passion. And at its height, around the 22nd, there’s a new moon that activates a new phase in key areas of your life. Home versus career; public life and private life; it’s all linked in a powerful way now thanks to transformation planet Pluto’s urge for renewal and regeneration.

Scorpio
24th October – 22nd November

As June begins, your co-ruler mars and love/money planet Venus join forces in the relationship angle of your chart. It makes for an unparalleled time for partnership and contracts, especially around the 22nd when the season-shifting Summer Solstice and new moon aligns with your other ruling planet, Pluto. New moons indicate new phases, and Pluto is the planet that on a good day lets go and trusts the universe to work things out unsupervised, while on a bad day exerts a vice-like grip on proceedings through narrowed and suspicious eyes. You just have to decide it’s going to be a good day, that’s all.

Sagittarius
23rd November – 21st December

Sagittarius is known for the ability to find the positive in circumstances, so if things get bumpy during first week of June thanks to a full moon (emotional amplifier) in your sign, with a theme of limited or restricted circumstances, you could try ‘this too shall pass’ as your power perspective, because in this case it really is true. There’s a lot to be positive about according to the skies, even when your ruler Jupiter turns retrograde (appears to move backwards) midmonth. It’s more about a turning point than a reverse course, so don’t fear a turning of the tide.

Capricorn
22nd December – 20th January

Second half of June looks so interesting for Capricorn. Not to say first half isn’t, as there’s a fabulous alignment of Mars and Venus all month, but it really gets intense at new moon time, around the 22nd. Mars (acting on desire) meets Venus (valuing relationships) in the matters of the heart angle of your chart, so it’s all very cosy and romantic, but it’s also about creativity and alignment with any of your heart’s desires. This new moon vibe is potentially challenging, with Pluto (fear of unknown) strong in the story; but the scales are always poised to tip to positive.

Aquarius
21st January – 18th February

The Jupiter/Neptune partnership (= expansion/non-physical) that has been going in your sign for some weeks now, symbolises a particular energy running through events, and reflects your attitude right now. It’s all a kind of spiritual journey at the moment; all about your awareness of what lies within and beyond the physical world. There’s a turning point coming in this midmonth, though it’s not the end of the story; far from it, as Neptune touches everything with an eternal, boundless feeling. And on top of that, new moon time from around the 22nd speaks of rebirth and renewal; deeply, intensely and emotionally so.

Pisces
19th February – 20th March

Both your ruling planets, Jupiter and Neptune are sitting close together all month. This symbolises a union within yourself that’s going on at the moment; an understanding, or a meeting of not quite opposites but of different intentions or desires that are working together right now. Jupiter turns retrograde (appears to move backwards) midmonth, and this always symbolises a change in perspective or viewpoint unfolding on all this. Also, communication is so well-starred during June; especially after midmonth, especially around 22nd. And that’s even with the radically intense energy around the new moon at that time.

Mercury Retrograde

So Mercury, planet of pathways and communication is retrograde now (appearing to move backwards), and it's a time traditionally associated with glitches and breakdowns and all sorts of palaver. I tried to get online to write about how there has to be a different way to view this, as I do believe the universe is built on positive power, not on energy intent on putting spanners in the works, but I couldn't because my internet connection went down :D

But I will not have it that Mercury retro is just about having to redo, resend, rewrite, reboot, rewire, reconnect, etc etc... there has to be more to it than that, and it has to have a basis in positive energy. So how about thinking of Mercury retro as a time for re-alignment of thought to a more positive perspective? Mercury is the planet of thoughts, and it's thought power that is the creative power behind everything, and the world out-pictures our thoughts and reflects the power of our own mind (mind over matter and all that).

So if you've been having less than kind thoughts about your clunky old computer, or that email you need to write, or you've been thinking you could do with a break, or a change of mind about something; now's the time that you'll reap the reward of your thinking with a nice literal metaphor from the Mercury ruled items around you; for good or ill unless you keep to positive thoughts about how clunky old computers just keep running and running and never let you down...

Susan Boyle - Saturn In Virgo? Venus In Aries?

If you haven't seen Susan Boyle's appearance on 'Britain's Got Talent' have a watch right now before reading further: here

Wish I had her chart details as there's something strongly emphasising the healing energy of Pluto in Virgo in her ability to draw all the unkind, cynical, disillusionment right out of us all like squeezing a big spot, leaving us wide open to renewed faith that life really IS a series of sassy sublime moments that are difficult to predict or prepare for, and it's this unpredictability that's actually a source of joy and refreshment rather than something to be guarded about.

The whole thing embodies current planet placements too - Saturn in Virgo in the self contained, mature woman who stands self-approving in the face of massive criticism; rising to the challenge Venus in Aries style: uncompromising and thankfully self-ish enough to maintain self-acceptance rather than be diminished by the sneery suspicion that others are projecting her way. There's also something Neptune in Aquarius/Uranus in Pisces here too, as collectively I think we've been waiting to be won over like this for an awful long time. It answers a deep need for people who can take us beyond the emptiness of conditional approval to unconditional appreciation, which can only happen when what is deemed real, important or necessary about gaining others approval is put to the test. It feels so good to watch Susan win the nation over in such an intense way because it feels so good to watch preconceptions fall away and appreciate another unconditionally. It's satisfying and fulfilling because we're wired that way.

Alan Shearer, Newcastle United, And Venus Retrograde

So my Newcastle-United-loving mother thought it was an April fool joke when she heard last Wednesday morning that Alan Shearer was to step in to save the day, to become manager of Newcastle United (story here). I had been saying for a while ‘you mark my words, something is happening with Newcastle, their chart is doing stuff’; I knew that Venus had turned retrograde right on Newcastle’s Jupiter, but I couldn't picture what a retrograde Venus/Jupiter alignment would look like for a club who seemed on such a downward spiral to certain doom. But it turns out the picture looks something like when Dr Who turns up right at the last minute when the daleks are yelling ‘exterminate’and the music turns all bouncy and relieving.

To recap, this is part of a story that began last September when manager Kevin Keegan left after bitter rows with bosses (reminder here). Club owner Mike Ashley upset everyone by refusing to restructure the management hierarchy, and let Kevin go instead. It was all very similar to that bit in Young Victoria when Queen Victoria wouldn’t change her ladies-in-waiting despite public pressure, and the public just went crazy, rattling at the palace gates and all sorts. Mike Ashley, just like Queen Victoria, didn’t dare show his face at the palace gates for a long time, meanwhile hiring a temporary manager, Joe Kinnear. Joe is a Capricorn, and he arrived at Newcastle just as Pluto, ruler of complete and utter transformation, arrived in the sign of Capricorn; and Saturn, ruler of Capricorn (associated with bosses and management and hierarchy and structures) began its alignment with Uranus, planet of the unexpected (especially unexpected anti-social, anti-media out-of-the-blue outbursts like this one from Mr K).

Then, right when Saturn was having its second alignment with Uranus, Joe Kinnear was taken to hospital on the 7th February, and had to have major heart surgery. Turned out he’s going to be fine, but it left Newcastle without a manager again. Unexpected and very Saturn/Uranus, but it also happened during the beginning of the ‘shadow period’ of Venus retrograde.

A retrograde phase is when a planet appears from our perspective on earth to be moving backwards. It’s not really, it just appears to be from where we are standing. And so it looks like it is taking backward steps through the degrees of the sign it has just been moving forward through. In this case:

Feb 3rd 2009 - Venus reached 29 degrees of Pisces (beginning of 'shadow phase')
March 6th - Venus travels to 15 degrees of Aries and turns retrograde (appeared to turn around and move back on itself)
April 17th - Venus returns to 29 degrees of Pisces (that is how you get the shadow phase degree - its the degree that Venus moves back to before stopping to turn 'direct' again)
May 21st 2009 - Venus retreads path to 15 degrees of Aries, crossing that March 6th turnaround point, finishing the full cycle by May 21st.

The thing with astrology is you look for similarities or meeting points, between the progress of an event and the progress of the planets in the skies. That's what I am looking for all the time as an astrologer: alignment between planet degrees, chart patterns, and events. That Joe Kinnear was taken out of the picture as the shadow phase of Venus gets underway, implies to me that the whole of the retrograde cycle is going to be important somehow in the chart of Newcastle United. But how? Well firstly you look for ways Venus is important in Newcastle’s chart, and you can also look for how the retrograde cycle hits the planets in the chart.

First thing I noticed was that Venus was going to slow down to a stop and then make its turnaround early March, right on Newcastle’s Jupiter. Click the chart to the left to enlarge it, and find the red symbol, what looks like a red number 4, at the 5 o’clock point on the chart. That is Jupiter at 15 degrees of Aries. So on March 6th Venus is due to stop and turn around right on that point. And astrologically it does symbolise a turning point, or turnaround in affairs. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, upliftment and (traditionally) ‘good fortune’… with a retrograde happening over it, it might be fair to say the symbolism could be a reversal of fortune, and as Newcastle has been right in the mire as far as luck goes, the interpretation becomes ‘a reversal of bad fortune’ (Not that I actually believe in bad luck; I am just talking about how any astrologer reaches for images and metaphors that describe the story of what they see going on – it’s ‘like’ a story of bad luck reversed, rather than literally saying bad luck exists. Alan Shearer isn’t really Dr who and Mike Ashley isn’t actually Queen Victoria, etc etc, it just describes the story).

So anyway, Jupiter is one point, and the other is Newcastle’s north node, which is in Taurus, the sign ruled by Venus (it's the little green arch symbol to the right of Jupiter in Newcastle's chart). The north node point is one of my favourite points of a chart because interesting things ALWAYS happen around it, and especially around the planet that rules the sign the north node is located in. The north node is associated with the moon and longterm cycles in the progress of events (especially 19 year ones, and if anyone knows what was happening to Newcastle 19 years ago, let me know), It’s known traditionally as the ‘destiny’ point in a chart – and the ruling planet of that point can show how that destiny is shaping up, or in other words, how desires and intentions set in motion are moving forward to fulfilment. In terms of Newcastle’s chart, this means the movement of Venus mirrors their progress toward fulfilment of the clubs intention or ‘destiny’ that was held at the moment of its creation or birth back in 1892.

When Joe Kinnear took ill, Venus was at 4 degrees of Aries, in alignment with Pluto (radical transformation), and his Capricorn sun. This 4 Aries point is the degree that Venus was due to return to on April 1st as a result of its retrograde motion, and it was April 1st that the announcement was made that Alan Shearer was to become temporary manager till the end of the season. Looking at the chart of that day as it lines up with Newcastle's (click to enlarge chart on left...symbols in pink are the placing of planets in the skies on April 1st 2009; black symbols are where the planets were the day Newcastle United was created), you can see the big red square in the centre of the circle that is formed by the cross alignment of Newcastle's north and south nodes of the moon, merging with the current placing of the north and south nodes. In astro language, that means big stuff is going on. Nice stuff.

I looked at Alan Shearer's chart last September when Kevin Keegan left, and the stand out point at that time was his career indicator (MC) is where his Venus and Uranus are placed, in the sign of Libra, which Venus also rules. I had kind of expected him to step in suddenly last year (Uranus = unexpected or sudden, and Libra is the balancer of what is out of balance), but it didn't happen. Yet this astro picture of April 1st seems more fitting, as his 6 Libra Venus is opposing the 4 Aries Venus (approx the 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock points on the chart on the left, pink symbols are April 1st skies); as well as lining up nicely with the nodes of the moon at 7 o'clock point, while Pluto sits right next to his Capricorn moon at around the 8 o'clock point, in turn lining up with his Virgo/Pisces nodal axis (the arch symbols at top and bottom of chart).

Astrology always reveals that things happen at just the right time, though it's always with hindsight that the bigger picture reveals itself fully. And so Newcastle United have got another saviour right in the nick of time, and I hope it all works out for them. Though whether or not Alan Shearer will stay after the Venus retrograde period ends in May I don't know; I hope so, as his chart works so glitteringly well with Newcastle's, but for now anyway my mother is a very happy woman and that's what's most important really :)

Strange Sun/Uranus Synchronicity Story

Last week, when Sun/Uranus in Pisces was happening, My Pisces dad had a computer glitch. For no apparent reason the wireless connection to the internet wasn't happening (Uranus is associated with a lot of things there, technology, the internet, connection/disconnection; while Sun is associated with dad's and in the sign of Pisces it's my dad :) )

So we struggled on for a bit trying to work out what had happened, but I am not the best at computer problems, and my dad is a new silver surfer (as of the Saturn/Uranus opposition last year... how Saturn/Uranus is that?), so he phoned Andy the computer man. Andy was busy but gave quick instructions about a few things to try, including turning the modem off and then back on again. He said 'try those things and give me a ring back'

All things on the list failed except the modem restart (Venus retrograde = re-starting for re-alignment?). All was suddenly well again. My dad phoned Andy and said 'everything's fine Andy, it's fixed'. The voice on the other end of the line said 'well I am pleased that everythings fixed but this isn't Andy, I think you have the wrong number'.

My dad apologised and explained he had been having computer problems. The voice said 'You don't mean you were ringing Andy the computer man? He has JUST left my house, he's been here fixing MY computer'...

What's all that about?! Not that I am complaining, as I love random weirdness like that, but what's all that about?! Very Uranus in Pisces, yes?

Full Moon In Virgo

This years full moon in Virgo (11th March @ 2.40am GMT) happens right on that Saturn/Uranus opposition that's been hanging around since last November. While the alignment of Saturn/Uranus isn't exact at the moment, this moon sort of fills in the gaps of the degrees and pulls it together again, focusing and amplifying the energy through full moon-esque events.

I was pondering with furrowed brow what a Virgo full moon-esque event might look like, then got distracted by a sudden need to bleach the bathroom grouting with a toothbrush. Which is so utterly Virgo it's not funny (especially the furrowed brow ponder while doing so). Then I decided I must ask my four-planets-including-Saturn-in-Virgo friend about painting my living room (he'd pointed out all my patchy paintwork and offered to finish the job properly, and now all I can see is my patchy paintwork), but was interupted by my Virgo relative who phoned all wired and excited to say she was going to see a psychic to attempt to contact her deceased father, and she felt it was going to be 'electrifying' (Sun/Uranus in Pisces). So though I couldn't see for looking, the energy is there and flowing, and I do get the sense there might be a rather a lot of over-stimulated, jangled nerves about, especially with Virgo and Pisces.

Also, for me and a lot of Pluto in Virgo generation this Saturn/Uranus opposition is hitting Pluto in the chart. Pluto is about trust versus control in situations, so you can add that into the mix of moon energies if applicable, as well as a thought I had the other day about the Virgo eclipse of mid-September 2007. I remember it because it happened around my Pluto in Virgo degree... but I just have a feeling that because this full moon is so close to that spot, with Saturn right on that eclipse degree, it's going to be echoing events from around that time somehow, or breaking a stalemate feeling, or moving things on, or amplifying that eclipse theme in a Saturn sort of way... oh the possibilities are endless; so if you notice this in your experience at the moment, do share with a comment. Anyhoo, back to me grouting :)

Venus retrograde 2009

So we are in the midst of Venus retrograde (retro = appears to move backwards). Even though Venus just turned retro over the weekend, the full cycle began early Feb and will end late May. Here's why:

Feb 3 - Venus reached 29 degrees of Pisces (beginning of 'shadow phase')
March 6 - Venus travelled to 15 degrees of Aries and turned retrograde (appeared to turn around and move back on itself)
April 17 - Venus returns to 29 degrees of Pisces (that is how you get the shadow phase degree - its the degree that Venus moves back to before stopping to turn 'direct' again)
May 21 - Venus retreads path to 15 degrees of Aries, crossing that March 6th turnaround point, finishing the full cycle.

So what's all that about? Well, rule of thumb that works well for any planet retrograde is to stick to words that begin with 're'.... so it's a period of reconnecting, reviewing, returning, relocating, retracing, retreading, etc etc, and as Venus is the planet of relationship and relativity, the Venus scope of influence is being amplified in all sorts of ways.

What was happening late Jan early Feb would have helped set the tone for your personal retro phase (the essence continues to echo through events) but while the exact dates are never that important, the general theme within a general timeframe are; as well as remembering that astrology is about cycles within cycles, so the bigger picture of Venus's eight year movement is relevant here too.

Last time Venus was retro in the sign of Aries was eight years ago you see, so is there anything similar back then to now? Maybe it won't come to light till after this retro time has been lived, but it will be there somewhere. Aries is a bold energy -'fierce' as they keep saying on America's Next Top Model - it's a straightforward as-the-crow-flies energy that's all about following or flowing with what you want from you, rather than being focused on what others don't want from you. Being in touch with, or being sensitive and responsive to your own desires is something that gets those with a strong Aries influence the label of 'selfish', but of course you only ever get called selfish by those who want you to do it their way instead!

So who was labelling you selfish eight years ago? or who were you fuming with for being so selfish? Ring any bells to now? The retrograde phase indicates there can be significant turning points in your perspective on relationships, while Venus in Aries indicates self-ish relationships are the order of the day... and hopefully so, as it's only by following your own inner direction that the world makes any sense.

Aquarius Eclipse

The sun and moon are together in the sign of Aquarius today, making a new moon (new phase), and this one's an eclipse. For me eclipses are pointers to significant times with effects that ripple out, like a stone thrown into water; so what is happening in your life around an eclipse time is the point of focus for energy for months, sometimes years to come. But don't get too hung up on the heaviness that implies, especially if you feel things have gone a bit pear-shaped at the mo, because it's more about it being a point of inspiration for the future. It's the inspiration that current events are giving you, rather than the events themselves that is the key.

And there's a lot of inspiration symbolised in the current planet pattern line-up. Jupiter is right next to the sun and moon, and Jupiter represents the urge for expansion and broadening horizons. It's an uplifting kind of vibe, which inspires a kind of panoramic technicolour outlook of what is possible for the future. Mars (action) and Mercury (communication) are together in the structure-loving sign of Capricorn, linking to the upcoming re-alignment of the two ruling planets of Aquarius: Saturn and Uranus. I really like the vibe of this eclipse, there's a freshness of energy to connect with and as Aquarius is an air sign, this breath of fresh air is most welcome; if you've been seeking new ideas or looking for a new approach, then this is your eclipse.
